Fire Mage Leveling Glyphs
By Coleman Engelford | July 22, 2009
The Wrath of the Lich King expansion introduced the Inscription profession, allowing for the creation of spell augmentations called Glyphs. While this was nothing less than a smashing success with veterans of the game, new players were left with yet another item to scratch their heads over.
I feel that new players have way too much of a learning curve to get by at the moment without tossing something new into the mix, so I’m going to strip away some of the guesswork by telling you the glyphs my fire mage used for leveling.
Glyph of Fireball – This is the number one choice for your first major glyph. Fireball is your main damage spell for most of the leveling process, and will always make up a good chunk of your damage. This glyph will increase your chance to crit with Fireball by 5%, but will remove the damage over time part of the spell. This tradeoff ends up balancing in your favor by a wide margin. Pick this one up ASAP.
Glyph of Improved Scorch – I picked this one up next, and I suggest you do the same. It applies a full stack of the Improved Scorch debuff, which means you’ll actually get to take advantage of it without being in a group! An extra 5% chance to crit is a pretty easy call.
Glyph of Frostfire Bolt – You don’t unlock this last glyph slot until 80, so I personally allocate it to what I feel is the strongest of our endgame spells, Frostfire Bolt. Augmenting it with an extra 2% damage and 2% crit makes it even more of a beast than it already was, so it’s not a tough choice in my opinion.
There you have it. Those are the glyphs that took my fire mage from 1-80. If you would like to see the talents I used, my personal mage leveling build that I used to level up can be found on my website at the link included below.
